Eye Care is a serious concern that is often neglected by people who lack health insurance.Our vision is one of those wonderful gifts most of us take for granted. Being aware of the importance of protecting your vision can help you to avoid problems with it in the future. Your eyes care a part of the body like the skin that you can do things to slow the aging process of using certain precautions that take little time to implement and can make a world of difference later in life. Having good eyesight greatly improves one’s quality of life. In the following article, I want to place seven good habits for you to keep your eyes in their best condition.
1. Keep Blood Sugar Within Healthy Limits
Continually challenging your body with foods that are rich in fat and sugar can put you at risk for developing large blood sugar fluctuations and eventually, diabetes. If you already have diabetes, keeping your blood sugar levels stable can prevent or delay the onset of diabetic eye diseases including diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and cataracts. Blood sugar fluctuations can also make the natural lens inside the eye swell, resulting in large prescription changes. You may be nearsighted one day, then farsighted the next. When this occurs, a possible diagnosis of diabetes is usually considered.
2. Keep Blood Pressure and Cholesterol Under Control
High blood pressure can lead to hypertensive retinopathy, a condition that left untreated can result in blindness. In addition, high blood pressure has been found to increase your risk for eye diseases such as diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and macular degeneration. High blood pressure in addition to high cholesterol places you at risk for developing a stroke or a central retinal artery occlusion. Strokes affecting one side of the brain often produce large blind spots in your vision. A central retinal artery occlusion is a “stroke to the eye” and usually produces profound vision loss.
3. Eat Antioxidant-Rich Foods
Foods containing antioxidants along with zinc have been shown to delay the progression of advanced macular degeneration by 25%. Although studies are controversial, antioxidants are believed to also delay cataract formation. Other nutrients, such as Vitamin A, play a vital role in good retinal health and aid in both color and night vision. Lutein and zeaxanthin, both carotenoid nutrients, have also shown positive side effects in macular degeneration patients. Omega-3 fatty acids were shown to help prevent recurrent styes and improve dry eye symptoms.
4. Have Regular Eye Examinations
Having a regular eye examination promotes eye health. It is easy to do, cost-effective and you might just learn a thing or two. Serious eye conditions are usually detected before vision or eye health is impacted. Regular eye exams also allow your doctor to measure your vision so that changes can be made to your prescription, ensuring your best possible vision. Your doctor will look deep inside of your eyes, checking for any signs of disease. Many eye diseases, if detected early enough, can be treated successfully without significant vision loss.

Almost of the people pay much attention to maintain the lens but ignore the cleaning of frames.I also ignore the cleaning of frames when maintaining my eyeglasses. In fact, the frame is as important as the lens. Once, there are spots, dusts, smudges… on the surface of lens, we can not have a clear visual sense from the lens. This is true of the frame. For example, if the frame is loose, the focus of the lens can not level at the pupil, so then make the eye burden more seriously and eyeglasses can not play the role of correcting vision. Hence, wearers should take a good care for frame when maintaining eyeglasses.
At the bellowing, there are several tips for caring frame:

① Use both hands to take eyeglasses off, instead of one. Generally, wearers are accustomed to take off their eyeglasses with one hand. Yet, this is a wrong habit. ③Wisely use the free glasses accessories, especially the screw driver. Generally, almost each pair of eyeglasses comes along with a hard case、cleaning cloth、and a screw driver. For the hard case, besides the function of protecting lens from getting scratched, it also can prevent frame from being pressed and distorted even being corroded by chemical substances. For the screw driver, it is a quite important and indispensable tool to maintain frame. When the screws which hold the frame arms on come loose that make frame unable to hang on the ears, wearers themselves can use the screw driver to tighten them. Do not need to go to the distance optical stores to repair eyeglasses which waste both time and money. Hence, begin to give a wise and full use of the free glasses accessories.

Like lens, frame also need to occasionally clean. Generally, wearers can wash the frame with soap and warm water or cleaner and then gently rub all parts of the frame. Clean the entire frame thoroughly to remove skin oils that can damage its coating.
